ABOUT DAVE MURGUIA
Dave Murguia is a Sergeant with a rural Iowa Sheriff’s Office who brings more than 21 years of law enforcement experience and a passion for protecting children from online predators.
His mission is to help law enforcement agencies recognize the threats children face online and give officers the knowledge and confidence to take proactive action. Throughout his career, he has served as a field training officer, investigations sergeant, night shift patrol sergeant, tactical response team leader, ICAC task force member, and a sworn member of a federal task force.
In 2022, Dave helped introduce proactive undercover online investigations to his agency, demonstrating that protecting children online is not just a big-city responsibility. With the right training, command support, and approach, agencies of any size can make a difference.
Since then, Dave has conducted and assisted with hundreds of online investigations involving child exploitation, online enticement, grooming, and other internet-related crimes. His investigative work has contributed to cases resulting in arrests and prosecutions across Iowa, more than 20 states, and internationally.
Dave shares his experience with law enforcement professionals through training courses and conference presentations across the country, including the Dallas Crimes Against Children Conference, one of the largest conferences in the world dedicated to crimes against children. He has also presented at state and regional law enforcement conferences, helping officers and investigators develop practical skills they can take back to their agencies and communities.
Through Murguia Online Investigations LLC, Dave delivers practical, real-world training built around the belief that proactive online investigations are within reach of agencies of any size. His approach emphasizes that departments do not need a large budget, a specialized unit, expensive technology, or years of detective experience to begin making a difference. These cases can be done at the patrol level!
As a working law enforcement sergeant, Dave understands the challenges agencies face, especially in rural communities with limited staffing and resources. His training combines lessons learned in the field with practical techniques officers can adapt to their own circumstances.
Dave's mission is simple: Help law enforcement get ahead of online threats, take action before another child becomes a victim, and remind agencies that they do not have to be big to make a big difference.
